A Special Guest

Hello!

If you live in The South, then you know that humidity has kicked into high gear already.  So to get a jump start on mowing the lawn, Eric was outside earlier than usual, with the unexpected company of a good friend and neighbor.  Neeko the cat!

What's dis?!

What's dis?!

I wasn't actually trying to take pictures of Neeko, but he's pretty tenacious.  Having been a lover of Garfield cartoons as I was growing up, I'm highly tolerant of cat antics.  I considered going inside to make Neeko a personal cat lasagna, but instead took a few photos of the front beds.

Neeko disagrees with the plan.

No weeding.  Only petting.

With the cat distracted by weeds being tossed aside, I bring you the bloomin' news.  It's flower-ie out there!

Here's something fun!  Having been a previous apartment-dweller, I never was able to sustain mums outside through the winter months.  But I planted these bad boys in the fall, and look!

Not only are the leaves vibrant and green...

... Houston, we have spring blooms!

Google tells me that I can let these guys go ahead and flower.  When they are finished, the plan is to pinch them back through June.  Again, Google says that they should be good to bloom again in the fall.  Woot!

There are two more greenies we should cover.  First, how about a round of applause for this Creeping Jenny?

Creeping Jenny is featured all over our neighborhood, looking especially stylish in pots and rolling over rock walls.  It is an incredible lime-green color in the spring, turns dark green through summer and produces these cute little yellow flowers.  I've been trying to figure out what it is for a year.  Truth is, I'd be a bad detective, because I only ever asked family that came to visit.  Tried to get the information from homeowners with Creeping Jenny through mind control alone.  Then one day, in the Lowes Garden Center, there it was!  So far, it seems to like it's new home.

And the final piece of news...

Eeeeee!

Eeeeee!

The blackberries are coming!

I hope that you all are enjoying the weekend and maybe even some cat antics.
